Verb


Verb:-A verb is defined as a word which shows action or state of being or event.
verb represents doing work thats why it is also called doing word.


verb are of two types:-

1)Helping verb
2)Main Verb

Helping verb:-A verb come before main verb.

helping verb are of two types 
1)Modals:-which cannot be used as main verb e.g:-

can,could,may,might,shall,will,would,must,ought to etc.


She can(Modal)   run(Main verb) fast 

   
2)Primary auxiliary verbs:-which can be used as helping verb as well as main verb.
e.g:-Be,do,have.


Auxiliary verb :-The verb which is used with another verb is called auxilliary verb  it 


is also called helping verb.


Marginal Auxilliary Verbs:-Used to,Need,Dare are marginal auxilliary verbs.These are 


modals which can be used in a sentence as Main Verb(need and dare) or adjective(used to).


I am(helping verb) used(adjective) to sleeping(gerund) at night.


I need(main verb) you

you need(helping verb) not come(direct infinitive) tomorrow

she does not dare(main verb) to come home late


I dare(helping verb) not enter(direct infinitive) his room without Permission.




Main Points of auxilliary verbs:-

1)Modal auxilliary verbs are not used as main verb it is used as helping verb.
E.g:-I can lift this box 

2)Modal auxilliary verbs does not include ing or s/es form in all verb forms means its 


form does not changes.It is used with all numbers and persons subject in only one form.


e.g:-

she can help(verb first form)  you 

3)After Ought and used infinitive" to +verb first form" is used.

e.g:-
We ought to respect(to+verb first form) our parents.
He used to come late(to+verb first form)
